Yumee Katsu Orlando: Deep-Fried Panko Katsu Review - King Don, Curry & More! (2026)

The Art of Katsu: A Culinary Journey

In the world of culinary delights, few dishes have stood the test of time like the humble breaded cutlet. From its ancient origins in Milan to its global variations, the cutlet has evolved into a beloved comfort food. And one particular style, katsu, has recently taken Orlando by storm.

A Historical Treat

Our story begins almost 900 years ago, where a monk's creation, lombolos cum panitio, set the stage for a culinary adventure. This ancient dish, presented to the Benedictines, laid the foundation for a myriad of breaded delights. Think veal Milanese, the iconic wiener schnitzel, and the hearty chicken-fried steak. Each is a testament to the enduring appeal of this simple yet satisfying concept.

My personal favorite, the East African beef cutlet, holds a special place in my heart. But Orlando has embraced a new star: katsu. This deep-fried, panko-coated masterpiece has become a local sensation, thanks to places like Chidon Katsu Palace and Cowboy Curry. The latter, nestled in Mills Market, offers a version so divine that it's become a regular on my order list.

Katsu Conquest

Enter Yumee Katsu, a Korean chain with a global presence, now making waves in Florida. With over 100 locations worldwide, they've mastered the art of katsu. The name itself, Yumee or Yumikatsu, evokes a sense of culinary delight. And their signature dish, the king don katsu, is a masterpiece.

This Korean twist on the Japanese classic is a sight to behold. A thin, pounded pork cutlet, breaded and fried to perfection, is large enough to cover my face. Served in the traditional teishoku style, it comes with a rich dipping sauce, miso soup, and an array of sides. The juiciness of the meat and the generous coating of panko breadcrumbs make it a messy but utterly satisfying experience.

On subsequent visits, I explored the chicken curry katsu, a delightful pairing with a balanced curry, and the fish katsu, featuring the versatile swai. Both dishes captured the essence of katsu—a universal comfort food, appealing to almost every palate.

Vegetarian Conundrum

However, a notable absence in Yumee Katsu's menu is vegetarian options. While they offer a range of Korean dishes under the 'Robot Lounge' sub-brand, including the intriguing vegetable tofu soondubu, katsu remains a meat-lover's domain. This raises questions about the inclusivity of such establishments and the potential for innovation in vegetarian comfort food.

The 'Robot' ordering system, an efficient kiosk, adds a modern twist to the dining experience. Despite a minor hiccup with a forgotten Thai tea, the overall efficiency is commendable. As Yumee Katsu gains popularity, I anticipate menu expansions, perhaps introducing the tomahawk cutlet from their Korean menu.

A Culinary Destination

Located beside the Woo Sung Oriental Food Mart, Yumee Katsu is set to become a culinary destination. The parking lot, once empty, will soon be bustling with katsu enthusiasts. This restaurant, with its deep-fried delights, is a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional dishes reimagined for modern palates. Personally, I believe it's these unique twists on classic dishes that keep the culinary world spinning, offering something for everyone, from the adventurous foodie to the comfort-seeking diner.
